MDLG Activities For The Year, 2004.
2004 began with the first meeting of the year in the woolshed at Merri Park. What should have been a lovely summer night was as cold as an early winter meeting. April was chosen as the time to take a trip to the Botanical Gardens at Cranbourne to view the new Australian Garden designed by Paul Thompson. Lunch at the Race Track Café on the way gave everybody energy for the long walk through the various environmental locations within the large area of the gardens. In term one of 2004 MDLG were involved with the horticulture students from the Whittlesea Secondary College. Over two sessions approximately 24 students to experienced planting small seedlings into tubes for growing in the nursery. The aim was to give them an appreciation of the Landcare operation. MDLG are involved with the school in their wetlands restoration project. In June four members attended the Landcare Conference in Bendigo. The discussions centred on achievements and setting goals for the future. Namely: Involving young people in Landcare activities and expanding activities to include the whole environment and not just trees. MDLG are already working to achieve these future goals so we came away with a sense of pride knowing we can hold our head high with others in the state. Elmore Show is a yearly event on the calendar of many as an important information day. A bus trip was organised for members with a particular interest in property options and improvements. Everyone voted the day a great success. November 6/7th Whittlesea Agriculture Show. MDLG will be there as usual. An invitation to the annual AGM is extended to all community members. The date is December 3rd and the place is the woolshed at Merri Park, 1545 Merriang Road, Woodstock. The Wilderness Society will provide a speaker who will give us a visual presentation on the ‘Old Growth Forests of Tasmania’ which is an issue none of us can afford to overlook. Super will be provided. |
