Bald Hill Biodiversity Project

MDLG is being used as a pilot project to implement  the first stage of the state wide objective of maintaining and  restoring  the natural vegetation of the red gum grasslands that extend  from  Merriang in the east to the South Australian border in the west. MDLG is responsible for the Eastern corner of this project bordered by Donnybrook road on the south, Merriang/Epping road to the east, Beveridge road to the North and the Hume Highway to the west.

Whittlesea Secondary College, Wetlands restoration project

The College as a program to establish a wetland in the flood prone area adjacent to the school, the work will be undertaken by the students as a project. MDLG is providing consultancy, and seed stock for this project as well as other assistance as required.

Eucalyptus camaldulensis Salt Acclimatisation Project

In 2005, the group intends to start an experimental salt acclimatisation trial for River Red gum with a view to producing more salt tolerant seedlings for use in saline discharge areas. It is hoped this will be achieved by gradually adding salt to the watering of tube stock and then selecting the strongest for planting in the test areas, and analysing the results.
